Consulting with your staff members may help in establishing the purpose, roles, and responsibilities of the work team.
The group dynamics of your work team would have a completely positive impact on the team’s performance.
In the workplace, you have the freedom of selecting the people you build relationships with at all times.
Key performance indicators are measures taken to ensure that the expected standards are being met.
Whether you are sharing opinions or facts with someone you work with, you must always provide all the information that is required of you.
Planning and designing jobs for workers are integral parts of the overall process of achieving objectives.
A mission statement is a written declaration of your organisation’s purpose and inspires and motivates your employees.
Clarifying roles and expectations for the team and its members should be done only at the onset.
As a leader, you have to personally support and assist the team members who experience skill issues and not rely on others for help.

Ask yourself these questions about your team. Discuss with the group how the development of guidelines would assist.

  • Do you honour your obligations to other team members?

Too many leaders give feedback too often.
Good communication means good business.
Feedback should be given at performance appraisal only.
Feedback is no different from any other business process – team members will only get out of it what they put into it.
The development of a list of duties and obligations expected of each team member will ensure that everyone is clear on the expectations.
People are responsible for their own performance.
If you’re providing feedback around an emotionally charged event, don’t wait – do it immediately.
Strategies are long or short-term plans to achieve a purpose.
For initiatives to be successful, it is essential that team members take responsibility for their own work and assist others in achieving their own work too.
An open and cooperative working environment and team atmosphere encourages members to openly share their thoughts and ideas as well as care for both themselves and their teammates.

Each team member should recognise his or her position within the team. The roles of each person should be clearly defined, with individual responsibilities, authority and accountability clearly spelled out. Has this been your experience when you have worked in teams? Is this the experience in your team now? Discuss with the group your perceptions and possible solutions.

Team building is essential to encouraging the active participation and responsibility of members as well as conflicts and problem resolution.
In promoting individual behaviour, you will have to sacrifice team collaboration and prioritise each member’s individual needs.
Work performance problems can involve either the quality or the quantity of the work produced.
It is not a challenge to overcome the problem of ‘in/out groups’ to maintain positive attitudes towards those in other teams.
There must be interpersonal relationships among team members, so the members have the ability to act together toward a common goal.
If a member leaves or another one joins, the dynamics of the team can be significantly changed, and the task of team building has to start again.
Without structure, knowledge of the expectations and tools to perform, team success will remain out of reach.
Team members do not need to contribute, learn from, and work with others.
A team member must have an awareness of unity on the part of all its members.
Having a shared commitment to common objectives is fundamental to good teamwork.
