Answer all of the questions below using the results of the evaluation in section 1 to guide your answers, and feedback from your classmates/friends/family for parts c and d.

a)      Document your findings on yourself in the four areas (empathy, emotional self-control, positivity, and adaptability) focused on in your evaluation in section 1 as discuss your strongest area.

Empathy- The ability to put ourselves in others’ situations. This is my strongest area. I can easily manage to understand others’ situations to empathize with people around me.

Emotional self-control- The self-control at the time of intense emotional outbursts. In this concept, I have good control. Sometimes it is difficult though but still manageable.

Positivity- The ability to look at the positive side of every situation. This is also a strong area of mine. It helps in being cheerful and solving problems quickly.

Adaptability- The adjusting capability of a person in every situation. I am a very adjustable person when put into different situations (Gottman, 2014).

b)    Reflecting on the results, identify what stood out for you in terms of what it tells you about yourself as a person.
The results tell me that I have a pretty high emotional intelligence. I can empathize with others when someone is facing a difficult situation. Also, I can understand what it is like to be in that particular situation. The self-control aspect is also manageable for me. I can handle intense emotional outbursts. Remaining positive in any situation is also easy for me most of the time. The positive aspect of any situation helps solve any particular problem. Also, the adaptability feature is outstanding in terms of adjusting to certain situations (Gottman, 2014).

c)     Thinking about the questions asked as part of the evaluation and your learnings as part of this unit, identify five of your emotional strengths from the following list:

·         Open-mindedness

·         Objectivity

·         Perseverance

·         Honesty and integrity

·         Generosity

·         Kindness and loving

·         Loyalty

·         Self-control

·         Trust

·         Optimism

·         Forgiveness

·         Empathy, compassion

·         Sympathy

·         Calm and reasonable under pressure

·         Dedication and commitment

·         Honesty

Empathy and compassion are one of my core strengths. Sometimes it is very important to understand others’ perspectives in terms of handling a problem. Also, it helps me in teamwork so as empathize with others.

Optimism is another emotional strength that I possess in terms of teamwork. Handling difficult situation with optimism helps me to overcome the problem with much ease. This also solves the problem faster.

Self-control is also my emotional strength. The ability to control intense emotions can be helpful to tackle stressful situations.

Honesty and integrity are other emotional strengths. These two qualities are very valuable when it comes to management teamwork. This helps us to collaborate with our teammates on a deeper level (Côté, 2014).

d)    Thinking about the questions asked as part of the evaluation and your learning as part of this unit, identify five of your emotional weaknesses from the following list:

·         Narrow-mindedness

·         Subjectivity

·         Defeated quickly

·         Tell people what they want to hear

·         Selfishness

·         Spite and isolation

·         Betrayal

·         No self-control/temper

·         Jealousy

·         Pessimism

·         Holding grudges/vengeance

·         Inability to understand other people’s emotions

·         Inability to feel sorry for other people

·         Irrational behavior

·         Indifference

·         Dishonesty

To accept defeat quickly is an emotional weakness that I possess. This is problematic in some situations of work. Especially when facing competition, the acceptance of defeat quickly is a problematic trait.

Also, I tell people what they want to hear. This people-pleasing behavior creates a problem for me sometimes. It is better to tell people what we feel rather than telling them what they want to hear.

Spite and isolation are other weaknesses that I possess. This also causes alienation sometimes. Controlling this trait is important because it can damage team spirit and isolate us when working in a team.

Holding grudges is also a weakness that I need to work upon. This is related to working on forgiveness. It is important to resist holding a grudge as it harms team spirit (Côté, 2014).

e)    Explain how you believe the emotional strengths you have identified above help your workplace performance and relationships.
The emotional strengths that I have identified have immensely helped me in my workplace. Be it performance-related or managing the relationships. Starting with empathy, helped me to connect with the team members by understanding their point of view in any situation. Optimism is again very important in problem-solving. Viewing any situation positively can help us to overcome challenges quickly. The self-control of emotions is also important when dealing with a professional environment. And at last honesty and integrity is also helpful in gaining the trust of the team members (Goleman & Boyatzis, 2017).
f)      Discuss how you believe your emotional weaknesses hinder your workplace performance and relationships.
Some emotional shortcomings hinder workplace performance and relationships. The people-pleasing attitude is problematic when it comes to dealing with people. This sometimes leads to dissatisfaction in work and relationships. This is also related to accepting defeat quickly. Holding grudges can also hamper the team spirit. At last, all this leads to feeling isolated or alienated from the team. This can hinder the management performance and also the relationships with the teammates (Goleman & Boyatzis, 2017).
